AMI Annual Dinner 2008
The AMI Annual Dinner took place on Wednesday 11th June 2008 and was a great success.
Nearly 300 guests to include politicians, journalists and AMI members gathered at Café Royal to hear Mark Hoban MP speak.
AMI was praised for its work by Shadow Financial Secretary Mark Hoban MP who said that there are no two better individuals than John Gummer and Chris Cummings to be representing the interests of intermediaries.
John Gummer, in his speech, urged firms to look to their trade body for leadership. He also called for the industry to work together so that the best interests of consumers can still be served. He concluded his speech by highlighting AMI’s role in looking to promote the role of the adviser over the coming year as the market tightens.
Chris Cummings, Director General, reflected on the last five years since AMI’s inception, drawing attention to the Association’s recent White paper that sets out steps to fix the credit crunch and not forgetting to thank our sponsor Abbey for Intermediaries for their support and Mark Hoban for his kind words.
It was a well attended and well received industry event, despite market conditions and our guests’ comments are testimony to that fact:
“Many thanks for your kind invitation to last night's Dinner which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have spoken to a number of people today who have said unreservedly that the whole evening was a success - it comes without the glitz and glamour of many events and was all the better for it as a result…I think the quality of guests, speakers and organisation was a great combination” (Mark Blackwell)
“Many thanks for a most enjoyable evening last night – it was good to meet up with so many existing contacts & meet quite a few new people as well. You must have spent an incredible amount of time organising it all & I was pleasantly surprised by the vast number of people attending” (David Black, Defaqto)
“The venue, food and company were excellent. Although no longer involved with the intermediary sector, I have no doubt that all intermediaries would benefit from becoming members” (Mike Perry, HML)
“Many thanks for the invitation to the above. I thought the speakers had some very interesting comments to make on the market and hopefully they will be extensively reported in the trade press. I also managed to catch up with a few old contacts I haven’t seen for some time” (Nick Berry)
“Just a quick line to thank you, and all at AMI, for a most enjoyable evening. I'm sure all who attended would agree that it was once again an excellent industry event and lets hope that market conditions see some improvement soon!!” (Nick Battersby, RAMP UK)
“Just a quick e-mail to say thank you for your kind hospitality at the AMI dinner this week. It was good to be able to catch-up with you again and to meet other colleagues in the mortgage industry. I thought it was an excellent event - it's nice to go to an industry function where there are serious speeches.” (Josh Cooper, Cooper Consultants)
“Congratulations to you for a wonderful evening and my thanks again for the kind invitation I really enjoyed the event” (Kay Leslie, Pink Home Loans)
“Many thanks for inviting me to your dinner on Wednesday evening; it was a very enjoyable and interesting event” (Jonathan Cornell, Hamptons)
“Thank you for inviting me last night it was much appreciated and I enjoyed a thought provoking evening with an impressive guest list of industry leaders and personalities” (Julian Wells)
