Parliament may be in its summer recess but the amount of work being undertaken at a regulatory level continues unabated

Not only do we see continuing progress to the reforms of the UK regulatory system increasing pace, with responses to FSA's and Treasury's papers due at the start of September, but we have also seen the recent publication of the FSA Thematic Review of Mortgage Fraud.

Whilst some of the press coverage of the review appeared to be overly focused on the role that mortgage brokers can have in fraudulent transactions, it is important to read the report which fully recognises the obligations that all parties in the transaction have including lenders, valuers, solicitors and brokers.

AMI continues to engage with all stakeholders on this issue and it is important to remember that answers to the fraud problem may not come as one size fits all solution. We will be adding our voice to that of the FSA in requiring lenders to weed out dubious solicitors and valuers.

Alongside our policy work, AMI has been experiencing its own review as part of AIFA's overall strategic review.

The review itself will have a greater impact on the IFA aspect of our trade body, rather than impacting on how AMI operates. However, it will address the need for AMI to increase its focus on the protections market.

Further details will follow as the review continues to take shape.
