Mortgage Business Expo (MBE) takes place this month at Olympia 2 in London on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 November.

It will be the 10th year that MBE has taken place. In that time we have seen substantial changes in the mortgage market and have seen the market reach remarkable highs as well as tough lows.

The return this year of an additional MBE event held in Manchester was seen as synonymous with the more positive, if not still cautious, outlook given by many within the industry.

As usual AMI will be running a full seminar programme spanning the two days at MBE.

The programme will include a diverse range of topics which affect mortgage brokers. The seminars will cover the lender broker market, alternative business streams, the impact of the economy on the market, protection and marketing and lead generation issues.

Furthermore, in light of the forthcoming changes to regulation in the UK market from both the MMR and from the European Mortgage Directive – CARRPD, we also have speakers from the FSA and our European trade body partners BIPAR.

Clearly FSA has been publically consulting on MMR for more than two years now. We would hope to see the publication of its final consultation paper made soon.

The constant uncertainly that this delay brings can only be detrimental to the market.

In addition, the European dynamic will continue to be prevalent and we need to be clear that the direction the directive is taking does not go beyond the level of regulation that FSA is proposing in the MMR.

The mortgage market will continue to grow, adapt and evolve as it always has done. MBE offers a unique opportunity for the various aspect of the market to engage with one another.

We hope that MBE continues thrive in meeting these needs over the next 10 years.

Monthly news round-up

Quarterly Economic Bulletin – Volume 20 FOS logo

The latest AMI Quarterly Economic Bulletin has been published, setting out a current view of the economy, the mortgage market and housing market.

Although average house prices have fallen from last year a closer look at the report shows that the gap between regional house prices is expanding. This means that considering house prices on a national basis is becoming less informative about the true picture in the market.
