Today, Tuesday 17th January 2023 marks International Mentoring Day. As part of the cross-sector work that is being undertaken by AMI, IMLA and a team of passionate volunteers, we are developing a sector-wide scheme to connect aspiring and existing mortgage professionals with leaders and industry experts for 1-2-1 mentoring and reverse mentoring opportunities.
Mentoring programmes allow people to take ownership of their own personal and professional development, increase confidence, can help improve diversity and understanding and provide great opportunities for knowledge sharing. The use of mentoring programmes was one of the recommendations from the 2021 AMI Viewpoint report on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity in the mortgage industry to help address barriers to career progression in the mortgage industry.
Robert Sinclair, AMI Chief Executive, said:
“Creating open minds, wider opportunities and building confidence is a core part of any mentoring programme. Identifying how you can find the right roles and develop is at the heart of a fulfilling work experience. AMI through its workinginmortgages.org.uk website and soon to be launched mentoring programme hopes to build new pathways for a wider group of people to see our sector as a great place to work.”
We are always on the lookout for new people to join our initiative and help shape the future of our mortgage industry. If you’re interested in finding out more, go to https://workinginmortgages.org.uk/our-story and ‘get involved’.
