Your March update from AMI Chief Executive Robert Sinclair

We have been advised that many firms have been asked to complete two new returns by the FCA.  We do not think that standard mortgage and protection advice firms need to complete either the REP-CRIM or the FIN074 returns.  If your firm has been asked by the FCA to complete these this year, then we would like to know – please contact us at info@a-m-i.org.uk.

We’d also encourage you to raise the issue with the Supervision Hub, which will signal to the regulator that this is a high-priority issue that many firms are facing.  This has some urgency as we would not want firms to be invoiced for fees for which they are not properly liable. We at AMI have been monitoring this issue for some time, and we are now pushing for this to be escalated within the FCA to ensure a prompt resolution.

Many of you will be aware of the work we have been doing over the last two years on the Diversity and Inclusion agenda.  We were delighted to learn this week that AMI and IMLA have been shortlisted for Community Engagement Initiative of the Year and the Diversity & Inclusion Initiative of the Year at the FT Adviser Diversity in Finance Awards.  This is real recognition of the great work the cross-industry teams have been delivering over the last year. We’ll find out if we’ve won on the 22 June.

Finally, government has now produced its ‘green’ zero carbon strategy.  At this point it has not given any more clarity on lender targets to improve the energy ratings for properties or on the 2025 and 2028 deadlines for improving the energy efficiency of rental properties.  As soon as we have information on this we will let you know.
