Working in Mortgages

AMI is proud to announce the launch of WorkinginMortgages.org.uk, a not-for-profit website focussed on developing Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) in the mortgage industry, offering a host of resources on career development, codes of conduct, leadership and more. It is brought to you by AMI in collaboration with the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association (IMLA), and co-developed by volunteers working throughout the industry to help deliver a more inclusive environment.

The launch took place via a live webinar on the 17th October 2022, and featured a website tour and commentary from a range of important industry voices on our D&I journey so far (you can rewatch it here).<

The website serves as a platform to showcase all the great work to come out of AMI’s Viewpoint Report on Diversity & Inclusion in the mortgage industry since its launch this time last year.

For newcomers, we want to raise awareness of the mortgage industry as a fantastic place to start (or switch) your career – sharing the opportunities available, the variety of career paths you can follow, and practical information on how to land your first role.

For those already in the sector, we want to promote the standards and best practices shared by many businesses across the industry today – along with guides on how to improve your workplace, and where to go to get support or report concerns. There’s also an exciting industry-wide mentoring scheme in the pipeline, so watch this space.

Finally, for business leaders, we have collated a suite of resources taking you through the benefits and practical implications of embarking on the D&I journey as a business. This includes thought leadership, actionable ideas, and examples of ‘what good looks like’ when it comes to creating an inclusive work environment.

Following the launch, AMI Chief Executive Robert Sinclair commented: “My sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to get us here. I have been blown away by the number of people, lenders and brokers, determined to make a difference by turning up, talking and adding content. So appreciated.”

The site will continue to grow as the conversation on D&I evolves, and we are actively welcoming more volunteers to come forward and get involved.
